Commissioned work

Here are a few images of work people have commissioned me to paint.

I do enjoy working with people to create a piece that they really want. Either to enhance a room with their own special piece or to create a lasting image of a well loved pet.

If you would like to commission a piece then do get in touch, I would love to hear from you to discuss ideas, thoughts and style. As well as size, positioning and price.

Do remember that if it is your beloved pet you would like on you wall then a very good and in focus photograph will be needed.

I do like to take  photographs of the pet, as a means of getting to know them . It really helps to get their personality into the painting if I have met them. If meeting them is not possible then a chat with you about them with you will also help.

Commissions start at £150 for an unframed A5 size painting and go up then depending on size of canvas board and whether it is a head only, head and shoulders, whole body and how many animals will be in the painting. Also, is the background undistinguished, or detailed  and willl the painting be framed or unframed.

We can discuss all of these factors and your budget then work with it.

Nothing is a problem, everything can be sorted, so please do get in touch, I would love to chat with you.

Carole

Lottie and her reference picture

Lotti

Lotti was a lovely little dog who I had the joy to meet and take a few reference pictures for her colouring. At eighteen she had some mobility and health issues but still her personality shone through. I was asked to use the reference picture for position as she loved to snuggle in her basket and to remove the visible heath problems including her cataract.

Her face and fur were a joy to paint. I used many layers with a fine brush to create this lovely surprise birthday present for her owner.

Rags

Rags reference picture

Rags was a real character. I heard many tales of his escapades in the neighbourhood before his photo was surreptitiously given to me to paint as a surprise seventieth birthday present

The Middlehurst posse

Within the posse are six dogs and a cat.

This piece was interesting because each  animal was from a separate photograph, they were all different scales and were never together at the same time.

There was a lot of discussion about the sizes of each dog in relation to the others as well as gathering photographs with appropriate colouring on.  For this piece I probably used twenty photographs. for the animals and the detailed background is the clients own garden.

Brenda's Burmese trio

These three beautiful cats were very independent and would neither sit together or stay still. I was able to meet all three and take many photos of them as individuals then put them together in this painting. It was important for the owner that the cats were on her new sofa and positioned together.

Zeus

Zeus reference Photo

Another surprise gift, this time for Christmas. I heard many tales of Zeus, particularly about him loving his ball. His owner provided me with some great photos but after some preliminary sketches he decided on this composition.

Decorated table

The client loved the acrylic pour work that I do and had a table that fitted well in her hallway but was tired. She asked me to decorate the table to go with colours already in the hallway. It is finished with heat resistant resin to protect it from anything hot that placed on it

Friendly paws

I have to admit that this piece was tricky and a huge learning curve.

I have included this painting to show why it is important to have good photographs. I will always do my best to make the painting as much like your pet as I can but without a good photograph this becomes extremely difficult.

The client had many photos of their dogs but they were not the clearest or brightest pictures. Some were in the right position but didn't show the colouring. Some had ears in the right position but not the rest of the dog. I think I used five photographs for each dog, piecing them together.

The client was very happy with the finished product and gave it to her husband as a surprise seventieth birthday gift, and he loved it as it reminded him of his wonderful friends.

School mural

I was asked to create a mural in the library at a school I was working at. The mural filled the whole space, including the ceiling space, but the detail went around the corners of a cupboard and covered the louvre doors to disguise them a little.

The tree and forest floor were filled with creatures and plants for the children to find and identify.

Orange Flow

The customer requested the shape and size of canvas to fit in a particular space in the house. She wanted orange to create a pop of colour in the room. In this painting there are many different oranges flowing across the canvas.

Alan and Bing

Here I was asked to join several photographs of Bing and her owner. To put them in a muddy ploughed field with tractor tracks and puddles.

I need to work on my photographic skills when taking pictures of work but he was very pleased with the details within the piece

Details of the trees , Alan and Bing

The piece was 45x35cm unframed
